2018 BMW M5 Revealed With 600 HP, All-Wheel Drive, and Refinement

Wild. Untamable. Those are just two of many words to describe the outgoing BMW M5. But with the release of the 2018 version, the M Performance division has made it easier to harness that carnivorous potency. The new standard all-wheel drive system is one, while refinement elsewhere, and a couple of safety nets round out the sixth generation model.

The new M5 returns with the same twin-turbo V8 as last year, but retuned to offer 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Those are substantial gains over the outgoing car, and the M-tuned xDrive system puts them to good use: a 3.2-second 0-60 time. But what if you don’t want AWD? You have the option of stepping down front wheel involvement by switching to the 4WD Sport driving mode, or nix them entirely with 2WD mode. BMW has also revised the steering for better weight, and the suspension for more cornering bite.
